Greek Kalamatiano Dance Videos
The Kalamatiano is a popular folkdance of Greece and Cyprus with roots to ancient times and a mention in Homer's Illiad. It originated in Kalamata, South Greece where the olives of the same name are grown. As with many Greek folkdances, it is danced in a chain going counterclockwise with the leader sometimes holding a handkerchief for the second dancer to grab. The handkerchief allows the first dancer to perform elaborate steps and acrobatics while the other dancers hold hands and follow along while dancing less complex steps.
