About Peter Voulkos
Born in America as Panagiotis Harry Voulkos to Greek immigrant parents, Peter Voulkos is known for his Abstract Expressionist ceramic sculptures, which cross between ceramic crafts and fine art. He studied painting and ceramics at Montana State University and earned a MFA degree from the California College of the Arts.
Peter's Ceramics
Known for their visual weight, freely-formed construction, and aggressive and energetic decoration, Peter's ceramics were shaped by tearing, pounding, and gouging their surfaces. At different times in his career, Peter cast his sculptures in bronze or in glazed or painted ceramics then hand painted them. His works are found in museums around the world including New York, Washington DC, Amsterdam, Tokyo, London, and Melbourne.
